What does PEM Fuel Cell(PEMFC) mean?
Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell(PEMFC) is a hydrogen-powered electromagnetic cell using two electrodes and a polymer membrane as an electrolyte, providing high power density and being able to operate at low temperatures. PEM Fuel Cell (PEMFC) includes several core components such as the membrane electrode assembly (MEA), gaskets, humidifiers, end plates, current collectors, bipolar plates, and they assist production for achieving high efficiency.
Market driver for PEM Fuel Cell Demand Increase
The global proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) market was USD 0.91 billion in 2018 and is expected to reach USD 47.60 billion by 2026, with a CAGR of 65.6%. In addition to FCEVs increased sales as customer acceptance increases, the government's target is projected to increase global PEMFC demand. Asia Pacific tries to rank the world number one major fuel cell electric vehicles producers by Hyundai, Toyota, Nissan and others efforts.
* Expected in 2016
Japanese Renewable Energy Minister's Council announced, in Jan 2018, new strategies to lead to a carbon-free economy by 2050. The policy sets a target to position 40,000 fuel cell electric vehicles and 0.8 million by the year 2020 and 2030, respectively.(Source: Indusrty reports of Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) Market from fortune business insights.com). Chinese hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle plan by 2016 was 5,000 fuel cell vehicles and 100 hydrogen fuelling stations by 2019 and 1 million fuel cell electric vehicle production capacity within 10 years(Source: No One Hydrogen Car Market competition in Asia Pacific). Korean government Roadmap[ targets 6.2 million accumulative fuel cell vehicle production capacity and 1,200 hydrogen fuelling station by 2040(Source: Hydrogen vehicle and battery electric vehicles in Korea). Global demand for fuel cell electric vehicle in 2018 was around 50,000 cars and expected to reach 260,000 and 2.2 million FCEVs in 2022 and 2030 respectively as the trend of global energy source moving to environmentally friendly sources such as Hydrogen.
